Hi,

Is it possible to calculate the 'moving average speed' with TMJ? I'm using TMJ to track my skating journeys and I would like to know my moving average speed, without the waiting time I have in the busy traffic etc.

Hi Pieter,

TMJ doesn't specifically record the moving average speed, but you can probably get a similar reading by setting the Settings/Activity Profile/Track Target Speed option. The TRACK(2) info page will then give the total distance and time spent travelling above this speed. An average can be calculated by dividing the distance by the time readout. (I could maybe add this as a separate readout if you think it might be useful...)

Note that this is more accurate at higher 'Track Target Speed' settings - for road skating you could possibly set it to around 6-7 mph (assuming your 'normal' speed is above this...?). GPS isn't really quite accurate enough to know if you're completely stationary (say, waiting at a pedestrian crossing, rather than just walking slowing, especially if you're in a built-up area with lots of buildings), so its difficult to get an accurate moving average. The slower the activity the less accurate the Track Target Speed will be (hence its minimum setting of around 4mph).

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Stephen,

I saw that I can also get the info from the website. I can see how much distance I did above 10 km/h. This gives the same result indeed.
