ortho 15:25 | hi Stephen. thanks for the great job! i discovered TMJ some days ago, i use it on Sonyericcson w995. it works fine, had no trouble with the gps. i searched in the forum, looking for advise how can i use the software for navigation and what kind of maps i should use. i am from Athens, Greece, so please excuse my mistakes! it is possible that there is information that i did not understand. i try to make me confident with the programm, althought i really dont know lots of terms used. could you give me some simplified information in my question?! thanks a lot jannis | |
Stephen 13:16 Location: Phone Model: | Hi Jannis, Sorry about the delay in replying! Glad you like TMJ - the W995 is an ideal phone for running it! However I'm not too sure exactly what you are asking - could you be a bit more specific in your questions. What sort of navigation do you want to do with TMJ? It can either be used online with OpenStreetMap-based routing from CloudMade, or offline for more traditional 'orienteering-type' navigation. Map-wise, the OSM vector and raster maps look to have reasonable coverage around Athens (though with variable streetname completeness). If you have JPEG or PNG images of other maps you may be able to convert them using the MapOrganiser - see that page for more info... Cheers, Stephen | |
ortho 15:09 | thanks for the answer! i tried your suggestion, it works. is it possible to combine many maps in a big one? i mean i have to make a lot of small png maps, in order to have a detailed road map of athens, with a very small fraction of the town. is it possible to create the hole view with the map organiser in one file? regards from athens jannis | |
Stephen 22:12 Location: Phone Model: | Hi Jannis, The MapOrganiser can only deal with a single PNG file at a time, but you could try stitching the PNGs together beforehand using Photoshop or a similar image editor. Then just import this single stitched map into the MapOrganiser and generate the *.tmj file as normal (you'll need to work out the exact lat/lng extents of the stitched map for this). Alternatively, if you have already created lots of individual *.tmj files you can try merging them into a single file using the separate MapMerger utility (which is included in the MapOrganiser download). This will then store the separate maps as 'layers' in the one file, which you can switch between in TMJ using the [*]/[#] keys. Hope that helps! Cheers, Stephen | |
